Tree Dedication for Jane Wheatall

On Sunday, September 25, 2011  at 12 p.m we will hold a Dedication Ceremony in honor of our school Founder Director Jane Wheatall.   Mrs. Jane Ann Alexy Wheatall, a Williamsburg resident since 1996, was called to her heavenly home on April 27,2011. Jane was born November 1, 1932 in Macomb County, Michigan, the only daughter of the late Emil and Esther Alexy. Following graduation from the University of Michigan she taught elementary school first in Michigan and then in Venezuela where she met her husband of 52 years, Ward Wheatall.
Early in their marriage, the Wheatalls moved to work in the newly found oil fields of Libya, North Africa where Jane gave birth to son, Michael, in Benghazi and daughters, Natalie and Suzanne in Tripoli. Michael, his wife, Suzanne, and children, Benjamin, Aaron, and Elizabeth reside in Anchorage, AK. Natalie, her husband, Jon Welsh, and children, Jacqueline and Nathaniel, live in East Granby, CT. Suzanne, her husband, Joe Casey and children, Harrison, Patrick and Jackson, live in Mechanicsville, VA. This far-flung family never allowed their mother to spend a night without one of them during her long hospitalization in late 2009 and they were at her side continuously through her recent extended illness. In addition to her husband, other survivors include her brother, David Alexy, and family of Michigan, plus one nephew, five nieces, and their families in Pennsylvania.
Jane’s life-long commitment to education, in particular spiritual development, led her to found and serve as initial director of two Christian preschools. The first was founded in 1976 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Westport, CT and the second at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Williamsburg in 1999. Both schools had initial enrollments of less than 10 students but, over the years, each has grown to serve the spiritual needs of hundreds of children and their families. Through Jane’s initiative, the Westport facility became the first Christian preschool in the town and one of the first Westport preschools to achieve national accreditation. Early accreditation was also achieved at King of Glory before any other Christian preschools in Williamsburg earned that distinction.
